So much of our time has been spent inside, but we have managed a minute here or there to begin establishing our garden.
We had a few existing fruit trees when we moved in, but since, we've planted 14 more, 4 blueberries and have started the task of building and planting square foot beds.
random chick (well, not quite a chick anymore!)
Eggplant- obviously being munched by some little critter..but growing, just the same!
My favorite this year- acorn squash.
Another random chick...
The turkeys are much fun to watch...they are like little pets.
New square foot beds Joshua and Paul built
The arbor Joshua has been building along with our raspberry and blackberry trellis
Muscadines growing up the arbor walls- we transplanted them from other parts of the yard where they grow wild.
Warmer days mean we can finally make some of the various things left in this house work for us!
We decided to set up a yard sale (our first ever!). A few friends brought their children over to help and this is the result:
Believe it or not, almost everything here came from just three rooms.
Needless to say, we're glad to see it go!
I think my favorite is this:
It still has all it's original feet and the soap dish- so beautiful!
I keep mentioning that we're busy just cleaning out. After five months of just trying to empty what was left here, this is still our basement:
At some point, I'll have to post the "before" pics. There were literally paths cut through so many things just stacked and stacked.
We have taken literally tons of trash to the county dump and to the recycling center. We have had almost weekly visits from the thrift store- the smallest load having been 22 boxes.
It's unbelievable what has been removed from this house- and we only have the basement and the backyard left.
I'm not sure if we'll have time to post in the morning.
Tomorrow, Matthew turns 11.
It's difficult to imagine that eleven years have passed since his birth. His arrival marked many changes for our family. His arrival brought joy once again to a family filled with grief following the passing of Paul's mother.
I will always think of him as a gift- a very special blessing from God.
I'm thankful that we're celebrating him tomorrow. As with all of our children, it will be a joy!
We're planning a big camp-out in the backyard for him (at his request). We've invited several boys and their fathers along to sleep over.
We have lots planned for our guests and our birthday boy! I hope it will be fun and memorable for him.
Just so we don't forget, this is Matthew today:
He had a little accident last night, at church of all places. I'm sure it could have been worse- but it still looks pretty bad.
I wonder what goes through the head of a little boy....they seem to find trouble. (This follows a massive case of poison oak that has just healed.)
Today, we have lots of cleaning, and grass-trimming, and activities to plan. I need to bake muffins and a cake. There is lots to do- I hope we can finish before folks arrive tomorrow.
Prayer Requests
Scott and his boys
Our planned camp-out, good weather and NO accidents!
Today I'm Thankful For
A husband who has a listening ear. This morning, I just needed a friend, and as always he was ready to listen.
Blackberries growing all through the yard
Bible/story time with the littles
A new web project our family is working
A church family that I'm growing to love
Today's Scripture Reading
"Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."- Colossians 3:13
Courtney and I have been working on decorations for the backyard. I found these at the local dollar store:
We decided to make them multi-colored for the birthday camp-out this weekend. I added some food coloring to water and carefully dipped each one being careful of the battery compartment:
You do have to be careful to let it drip in the bowl before you remove it and then place it on paper to dry (we used a stick in a flower pot to give them some place to drip)-
